Squaws are National Champions!
Last Friday, in varying states of distress or glee about missing the royal wedding, 12 Squaws (and 4 awesome sideliners) headed north to Durham for University Women�s Outdoor Nationals. On Saturday, Squaws dominated their pool, conceding only 5 points in 4 games. The Sunday saw them smash through their quarter-final opponents, Leeds (9-2), and fight their way through a tough semi-final against St Andrews (7-4), before facing off against Cambridge in a repeat of pool play for the title. Repeating regional rivals Sublime's (Portsmouth) monumental achievement of last year, Mohawks fought their way to the elusive 'double' - winning indoor and outdoor nationals in the same division in the same season. In a weekend of tough competition at University Open Outdoor Nationals in Sheffield, Mo 1 went behind in almost all of their games, only to pull out the comeback time and again, and prove that they were truly deserving of their first seed. Sussex Squaws made an early declaration of intent this weekend at the Southern Women's Warm Up with decisive victories in all of their games, conceding only 8 points in the entire day. Showing off some slick offence and relentless energy on D, Squaws look like a hot tip for the upcoming University Women's Outdoor Nationals. This weekend sees 5 full university and 2 combination teams descend on the University of Sussex campus for an exciting and historic event: the first ever Southern Women�s Warm Up Tournament. Sussex�s women�s team, Squaws, will be looking to make a strong showing in preparation for University Women�s Outdoor Nationals, set to be held in Durham in May. Squaws have won the title twice in the previous four years, and are hard at work preparing for this year�s tournament.
