Team lists: Mixed Regionals 17th-18th November

Hi everyone,

The last and greatest of the three indoor regional competitions is coming in a couple of week’s time. Again hosted at BACA, so (almost) no travelling involved! Not this coming weekend, but the one after  – 17th/18th November.

Mohawks have four teams entered, meaning lots of people get to play in the most fun division in ultimate.

The team lists are below. I have spoken to almost everyone on the teams, but if I haven’t and it turns out you can’t make it please let me know asap so I can replace you! If you aren’t on a team I’m sorry if you are disappointed. It is incredibly hard picking from the whole club, trying to balance genders, abilities and development of players. Please don’t feel disheartened, and if you want to ask me about my decision then please do.

Now seems a good time to say – if you haven’t yet filled out this form: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDNHbjlEbG5pZ1BQVWthbWdHTWl5bkE6MQ#gid=0 … please do so NOW. It will make it much easier for captains to contact you regarding team selections in future. And it will mean I can ring you if you don’t turn up for your 9am game!

Hammertime!

Hey guys,

So this weekend there is no official tournament, however Kent Touch This (Kent University) are hosting an awesome hat tournament called Hammertime!

The tournament takes place in Canterbury – we will take an early train there on the Saturday Morning (if enough of us go it will be super cheap through the use of group savers) – the tournament is free so all you need to pay for is food and train fare!

The way a hat tournament works is that you are put in a team with random other players, however at Hammertime, teams have themes, which also involve some form of costume…

I cannot stress enough how fun this weekend is (we will be home by Sunday lunch time, accommodation will be provided) especially for Freshers who want to improve, but want to have LOADS of fun at the same time (plus the Saturday night party is frickin awesome)

Text me (Prossie) if you are interested – 07817201638

and more info can be found here…

http://www.facebook.com/events/508921499135582/?ref=ts&fref=ts

Let me know ASAP so accommodation and train can be sorted – don’t hesitate!!

Newsletter Week 6/7

Hey Hawks Young and Older,

Open Regionals

Firstly, well done to all the people that played this weekend. Entering 5 teams into a regional tournament is almost unheard of – countless people from other teams over the weekend were so impressed by what Mohawks as a club have achieved, so well done! Talking of achievements, once again well done to Mo1 for winning (keep it up!). My favourite stat of the weekend was when the top 12 teams got frozen in place. Among those 12 teams were 10 first teams, Mo2 and Mo3 – absolutely incredible that not only can we have a presence at a tournament like we did, but we can also do amazingly on the pitch as well!!

Training

For freshers and beginners this week, training starts at the new time of 2:30! Due to daylight running away, we want you guys to have as much time as possible to train so get there 30 mins early to get maximum training!

Social

There is a social this week happening tomorrow… Ask Mette and Maggie – there should be something on the forum very soon!

On Friday, Fetu and Meg and James are hosting the 2nd annual UV RAVE PARTY!! Last year was absolutely incredible – come along – bring UV paint, lots of white stuff, and even more alcohol – it will be SPECIAL. More details can be found of facebook – ask Fetu tomorrow for more information like address and the like – all Mohawks are invited.

See you guys very soon

Prossie x

IMPORTANT – Regionals teams and times changes.

Hi all,

So due to masses of people dropping out, we have had to pull one of the teams out of regionals :(

People have been shuffled around in teams so check the lists below to see where you are now!
Everyone who wants to play is still playing, just check what team you are now on.

(Mo 6 will become a pick up game on the schedule).

Here is the Schedule. Please check it to see when you start.

Mohawks 1,2 & 3 will be starting at or very soon after 9am.

Mohawks 4 & 5 will be starting at or very soon after 1.20pm.
The venue this weekend is very close to campus but hidden away a bit so here are some directions which should get you there safely!

It is at BACA (Brighton Aldridge Community Academy)

http://www.baca-uk.org.uk/contact-us/how-to-find-us/

From campus:
1. Walk out of university along the path which is the entrance the buses come into campus on towards Brighton.
2. When you reach the crossroads where the traffic lights are, go under the bridge and then straight on.
3. You should see a tunnel ahead of you with a no entry to cars sign, go through that tunnel.
4. Ahead of you up a slight hill on your left you should see a big car park and a large glass looking building. The tournament is in there!

Also, please pay £15 to Ash for the tournament. If you do not pay before 9am Monday morning then this will go up to £20! Once you have paid, email Ash ( [email protected] ) with your name, reference and amount paid. Just make sure you put [YOUR NAME] and TOURNAMENT MONEY in the reference.

Details for payment are:

Friday Practices – Use Stanmer Park

Hi all,

Indoors today is an invite-only practice for the open first and second teams. But as with previous weeks we will also have an outdoor session going on so come on down!

Just a quick note – we DO NOT have Russel’s Clump booked on Friday afternoons. This means that if you are coming along to play some ultimate on a Friday (including today…) you must use Stanmer Park.

I believe Megan will be the adult responsible for the outdoor stuff this week, but in case any of you arrive before her please do not use the clump but head down to the flat, well-drained and flint-free grounds of Stanmer Park, just the other side of the wooden posts.

Thanks!

Shimmy John

Just a few bits of news and events for what has happened and what is coming up…

SICKO

So SICKO was awesome, right?! Firstly a massive thanks and well done to all those who helped organise the weekend – it was awesome. I loved everyone’s costumes at the party too – it was a top night! But more importantly, well done in the results! The Mo freshers keep showing how good they are – it’s going to be such a good year! The two Mohawks teams met in the semi’s, with one team going on to win it, and the other coming 3rd! Awesome work both of you, and another well done to both Squaws teams who finished 1st and 2nd too!

SEWIR

Women’s indoor regionals is this weekend! If you want to play and have’t got in touch with Sarah, do so ASAP! You can email her at [email protected] or get her on facebook! The tournament is being held in Brighton at BACA, which will be the 1st of 3 tournaments being held there – very exciting indeed!

Just a very important note concerning regionals and nationals coming up – in order to play you MUST have basic UKU membership – this gives you access to all university ultimate tournaments…

Apart from that, training is as normal on a Wednesday 3-5, as is the social, which you can find more about on the forum!

Mohawks Newsletter Week 4/5

Hey Mohawks!

This is an email for what has happened and what is going to happen this week coming up…
SKUNKS BEGINNERS
Firstly, a massive congratulations to the two Mohawk Beginner teams who went to Southampton this weekend to compete in the beginner tournament there – one team came 2nd, and the other came 9th! On top of those fantastic results, for the second week in a row, Mohawks Beginners won spirit! With the Mohawk Pick-up team coming 8th in the experienced division, it was a fantastic weekend overall!
TRAINING
Training is as normal this coming Wednesday, 3-5 on Russells Clump.
On Friday, Women have the indoor pitch, so if you have both an X and Y chromosome, come outside to Russells Clump for more outdoor training!
SOCIAL
This Social this week is the COWBOYS AND INDIANS SCAVENGER HUNT! It’s going to be awesome, but make sure you turn up on the right day as the social this week is on THURSDAY 18th, and not the Wednesday. Meet at East Slope bar at 8 in costume, where you will be split into teams… for more information check the forum.
The fact that the social isn’t on Thursday doesn’t mean nothing is happening on Wednesday – we will be hanging out in Falmer Bar after training for fun and games for the evening, so make sure if you go home to shower, you come back y’all, y’here?!
– Sports Fed – if you guys are playing Ultimate and you haven’t got this yet, do so ASAP from the Box Office (sign up on the Student Union Website first) – you will not be able to come regularly without it soon, so GO GO GO!
Have a great week guys,
Cya Wednesday,
Prossie

Training – Friday 5th October

Hey Hawks,

Here are the plans for Friday training (2-4pm) this week!

Everybody meet in Hall 1 of the Sports Centre at 2pm – we’ll work out who goes where after that.

Beginners: Bring clean indoor shoes! You will definitely be indoors for the session.

Experienced players: Bring indoor and outdoor gear. If you can’t be bothered to bring both, just bring outdoor stuff. Where people end up will depend on how many beginners we have and how many experienced.

See y’all on Friday, and keep throwing!

Megan & Felix
